Masculinity: Haydee Lemus
Masculinity and the "machismo" that is so often associated, provide a major challenge across a range of Development issues. In the context of Family Planning in Guatemala this was the focus of Haydee Lemus's presentation at the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Summit. Based on that experience and the research reviewed, four strategies were recommended:
- Training on gender and new masculinity for health providers
- Interpersonal communication (IPC) - approaching and engaging men in FP at community level.
- Advocacy - engaging civil society men's networks
- Communication campaign in mass media and community channels to promote new masculinity roles
Do you agree with these approaches? Are the apprproiate and potentially relevant in your context?
